Women's Indoor

On Sunday 17th December, eight teams from across the Southern Counties descended on Charterhouse School to take part in the annual South Indoor Qualifiers, with the prize of a place in England Hockey’s Division Two South on offer for the eventual winner.
Wimbledon and Oxford Hawks got the day’s proceedings underway, with Wimbledon winning the game 3-2 despite the absence of a keeper! Tight games proved to be the order of the day with London Wayfarers, Tulse Hill & Dulwich, Woking and Harrow then all playing out score draws, 2—2 and 1—1 all respectively.
That said, London Wayfarers started to up the ante and the goal tally with the day’s biggest victory, a 5-0 win over Woking. As the group stages ended, just about every game had something riding on it, with the goals difference column being carefully studied. Wayfarers won their group with Tulse Hill & Dulwich claiming second place on goals scored. Group B was slightly more straight forward, an unbeaten Wimbledon going through as group winners with Horsham in second place.
A tight first semi-final saw Horsham prevail 2-1 against Wayfarers and whilst the score line might not suggest it, Wimbledon were made to work hard in beating Tulse Hill and Dulwich 4-2, setting up an exciting final game.
This game could not have been tighter with the two teams locked at 1-1 at the final whistle, both keepers ensuring that their teams remained in the tie. Game 15 was therefore settled on flicks which Wimbledon duly won 2-1 to ensure their passage to Division Two South early in the New Year.
Well done to all eight teams that took part, over 15 games we saw some excellent hockey played, 47 goals scored all aided by some superb umpiring. In 2018 we look forward to expanding the event further so watch this space for more details!
